Poznan University of Economics is a major academic institution in the western part of Poland. It is the biggest and oldest business university in the region of Wielkopolska with origins going back to 1926.

PUE specializes in educating economists, managers and specialists in quality management in all sectors of the economy. The main subjects of research range from various aspects of Poland’s economic transformation to the preparation of Polish enterprises for competition within the European Union and the globalization trends in the world economy.

In terms of enrolment as well as scientific and academic potential, PUE ranks among the leading economic universities in Poland and has participated in a number of EU funded programmes, including: SOCRATES/Erasmus, PHARE ACE, Leonardo da Vinci, and the FP5/6 projects PISTE, ARCO, EURAREA, USE-ME.GOV, ASG, SUPER, T-OWL, KnowledgeWeb and enIRaF.

The Department of Information Systems – its researchers will take part in Service Web 3.0 – focuses on widely understood business information and knowledge representation, processing, and management. Currently it is involved in a number of projects applying semantics for information systems as well as performing Web services composition. Among the systems developed in the department are workflows, e-marketplaces, systems supporting deep Web data integration, information extraction for information systems, Web services filtering and contextual information processing. Recently the department has expanded rapidly due to successful projects and the ability to attract skilled workers. Currently, there are over 30 PhD students enrolled.
