The Semantic Technology Institute Innsbruck (STI Innsbruck, formerly known as DERI Innsbruck, Digital Enterprise Research Institute) at the University of Innsbruck is one of the leading research institutions in the area of Semantic Web, Semantic Web services and Service Oriented Architecture technology worldwide.

Besides the core research areas, STI Innsbruck also has a large body of expertise in the fields of semantic space middleware solutions, context modelling and ubiquitous services. Started as a research group under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Dieter Fensel in 2003, it has officially become a research institute at the University of Innsbruck as of January 2006. STI Innsbruck has four full- and part-time professors, Prof. Dr. Dieter Fensel (Institute Director), Prof. Dr. Martin Hepp, Prof. Dr. Marcus Spies, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Strang. STI Innsbruck maintains broad international collaboration with many countries outside of Europe, such as the United States, Japan, and South Korea. The institute also aims at maintaining a lively knowledge exchange with local industry. In this respect, STI Innsbruck has installed a Business Development unit that provides guidance and training to business professionals with the clear goal to showcase the potential benefits of applying semantic technology in industry.
